How to Select TFT LCD Monitor for Gaming?

Written By:  on March 2, 2010 No Comment

You've probably heard it before but it bears repeating … the best way to know if a is right for you is to view them in person. Data are a great tool for narrowing your choice, but they are no substitute for practical experience. Many of the large trader has a wide range of monitors and some are on display. Go down to every shop you can and see if the you will find thinking of buying. You never know what you spec slightly less likely that avoidedextra inch screen may beat everything else hands down in the "real world" performance.

The minor problems

Dot Pitch / Pixel Pitch Size

Dot pitch is the distance between phosphor dots (sub-pixels) or between TFT-LCD cells of the same color on a screen. A smaller number generally means that the image is sharper on the screen, as there are more points in a given field.

An ad with a smaller dot pitch is usually better, but that is not always true, because theto measure the methods used. There are many methods of measurement and differing pixel geometries on the screen and the different screen resolutions in the assessment of image quality on the screen.

Most of the time measured, dot pitch is on the diagonal, it follows, therefore, the exact representation of the dot pitch of the display. Later, some companies with a horizontal dot pitch measurement. Due to the measurement only the horizontal dot pitch and not the vertical, cheap, low quality displaysseem to have a smaller dot pitch.

For example, a display with a 0.28 mm (diagonal) dot pitch has a horizontal grid of 0.24 or 0.25 mm depending on some construction variables, a good quality 0.26mm (diagonal) display has a horizontal grid of 0.22 mm.

Be sure to confuse the two different measurements, which have a 0.26 mm dot pitch may be more dots per millimeter than the 0.24mm dot pitch display.

Contrast and brightness

The contrast is the ability tothe , the brightness varies between the foreground and backgound. It is placed in relation to the expression (eg, 500:1). In general, the higher the ratio, the better the image quality as the display will be able to show bright colors next to dark without washing out the black or dulling of colors. The brightness of the display is in candelas (cd computed) and is formally defined as follows:

Phew, what does this mean for us is that the larger this number, the brighter the display is in a position to be. However,You have to be careful, the power consumption of the device. A display that is a very high brightness has to consume more power than others with a lower value. The old adage, "a light that burns twice as bright lasts half as long" kind of applies here. Thus a trade-off between brightness and power consumption is something to see.

Viewing Angle

CRT monitors are visible from almost any angle. That is, if your view is not blocked by the curve on the screen or in the surrounding plasticFrame. TFT-LCDs have a narrow focus and can therefore be considered only within a certain arc of angles. As the technology improves, this arc is improved. This should not affect on the primary user of the PC, how they should sit in front of the display. But if you want to bystanders, you will see the highest score achieved in Puzzle Bobble, or try to show your girlfriend your best trick Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, you can have some problems (and might evennot in a position to see the ;-)

Digital vs Analog ports

More and more graphics cards come with DVI ports. But you should see a display with DVI port and analog port, or both?

The advantage of a DVI connection over analog is that the DVI connection allows for lossless transmission from computer to the display. Signal to noise, should not such a problem with the DVI port (no more hum bars on the screen whenThe vacuum is used). It also provides support for much higher data rates that are needed for the larger diplays (such as cinema screen size displays). Currently there are no other advantages of the DVI connection specification exploited. If you want more you know about this issue on the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG), which developed the specification.

What to Look For when buying

As mentioned above, reaction times are the main concern of a TFT-LCD screen.Viewsonic is advertising their VP201s monitors as with reaction times (Pixel Response, Video Response) that are fast enough to the "Realistic, artifact-free 3-D gaming." These monitors have a "blistering 16 milliseconds (16 ms) response time." Hitachi also announced its CML174B and CML 175B LCD monitors with response times of 16ms "enabling smoother computer video, animation and gaming movement." Samsung goes one step better with its 172x LCD that sports an amazing 12msResponse Time.

Next, you must have a screen that has a native resolution which meets your needs, to choose. That is, if your system will only play at 800×600 then buying a 2048×1536 monster display will not benefit, and will almost certainly do more to hinder your game, and your pleasure.

Check dot pitch measurement and make sure you compare like for like if you are on more than one display, especially from differentManufacturers.

High contrast and high brightness, but low-power comsuption is a very good combination, because this will give you stunning images and your ad will last hopefully longer.

Other, smaller concerns (such as the price) I let my personal preferences. A TFT-LCD, all fulfilled these criteria, will hopefully do justice to your game visuals and give the PC gaming experience that you desire.
